| Race
for Breast Health
By Jessica Floyd
The 10th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the
Cure was held Saturday at Meredith College.
The event raised more than one million dollars
to go toward breast cancer research. Valerie
Worthy, a seven-year breast cancer survivor,
says that the race allows survivors
to let people know that you can still
live life to the fullest even
after having cancer.
People could
race or walk a three-mile course in honor or
memory of breast cancer patients.
Worthy says that the race was not difficult
for survivors.
"If I can survive breast cancer, I can
survive anything,” she said.
Participants enjoyed a performance by a local
band in honor of all the breast cancer survivors.
Over 20,000 people attended. Information
was
also available
about cancer treatments and prevention.
