Soap Star

Many people across the state are tuning in to watch General Hospital. A new face is going to be on the show. Maurice Whitfield of Durham beat out more than 700 contestants at the “I Wanna Be a Soap Star” competition.

His mother, Veronica Pettiford, can’t wait to watch him on one of her favorite soaps.

“My heart stopped beating and then all I could think of is he deserved it. You know, I was very, very happy for him, very pleased, very proud, really excited, and just wanted everything to wrap up so I could run and grab him and give him a big hug because he just left me in awe,” she said.

Maurice is a senior Music Theatre major at Elon University. He has a speaking part in the show and will appear on General Hospital this Friday and next Monday.
