The Fourth of July provides plenty of time
for celebrating with friends and family. Kenan
Stadium hosts people from the community every
year for sunset fun and music on Independence
Day. Crowds started gathering early this year
at 7:00 to enjoy country band Last Man Standing.
Red, white, and blue fun for all ages included
patriotic gifts at the gate, refreshments,
and balloon animals from a clown. Several people
could be seen waving flags and laughing. Inside
the stadium, R&B band Location had a few
people out of their seats, while waiting for
the fireworks, and the crowds kept growing. Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation organized
the event.
“I
think it's an opportunity for families to
come out together and enjoy themselves,
I think it's
a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful
sight of Kenan Stadium, and a nice July
evening to
celebrate our independence,” observed
organizer Wes Tilghman.
Finally, at 9:30, came the show everyone
had been waiting for, the fireworks. Patriotic
music from radio station 1360 WCHL accompanied
the
pyrotechnic display.
