Former Clef Concert
By Jessica Floyd

Brendan James graduated from UNC in 2002. As a student he sung with the all-male acapella group The Clef Hangers.

James held a concert in Carrboro where he tickled the ivories and serenaded the audience with his soon-to-be famous voice. Some fans have been following James since his college days. Jennifer Shore says she loved his voice the first time she heard it.

"I saw Brendan back when I was going to school here. He was singing in the Clef Hangers and I thought he had an amazing voice," said Shore.

James says he feels like he's living the ultimate dream.

"All I did when I was young was walk around the house singing at the top of my lungs. I had no idea it would ever manifest into something like a career out of it," said James.

A career is exactly what James has because he recently signed with Capital Records. Once his CD is released fans will be able to hear his voice anywhere in the world. James says his music can transcend all cultures because of its unique style.

"It's piano driven, singing, songwriter music. It's not really pop. It's a lot of things. It's a little bit of soul in it," he said.

James says no matter how high his star rises he'll never forget his Tarheel days.

"I came here not knowing anybody in 1998. And, Gosh! I love this place and it feels so good to be back," he said.
